Colefax & Fowler

Colefax & Fowler is English country style, defined. The house traces back to Sibyl Colefax, who began decorating in the 1930s, and the legendary decorator John Fowler, who joined her in 1938 - together they shaped the look the rest of the world now calls English Country.

Its fabrics are the real thing: faded chintzes, sprigged florals, quiet stripes and printed cottons in colours that feel as though they have softened over decades. There is a gentleness and a rightness to a Colefax & Fowler print that is very hard to imitate.
