Casal

Casal has been in Alsace since 1945, in the mill town of Thann, and behind it stands the Prévot-Scheurer family - six generations of French textile history, with roots reaching back to the printers who gave the world toile de Jouy. In 1962 the family sold its production capacity and kept the part that mattered to them: the designing and the collections.

What survives from all that printing is a house that still thinks like a mill. Expect tapestries and verdures, Genoa velvets, jacquards with real weight and classic French patterns woven to be sat on rather than admired. A Casal fabric brings a little of the old order into a room, without ever feeling like a museum piece.
